Although it hasn’t grown as big as mainstream apps like Tinder, tens of millions of people have signed up to this app. So, in this world where we’re now overwhelmed with dating apps, is Lovoo a good shot for you? In this review, we discovered how effective the free edition of Lovoo is for helping you connect with women, plus whether the premium edition is worth the money. We also learned whether this app actually has lots of singles looking to meet or just bots that are out to get your money.
Then I moved on to the premium Lovoo membership. During this test, I checked out every feature available to me to see if they’re worth your time and money. However, the most important part of this review is what happened when I sent messages to 50 women on Lovoo.

Lovoo prides itself on its versatility. On Lovoo.com, it says it’s the app to accompany you to find your next date, experience your next kiss, and maybe find your next relationship. This broad reach might be what helped it attract so many members.
So, let’s discover what happened when I messaged 50 women and tried to swap contact details, with the view to meet for a date.
Lovoo’s free features aren’t bad at all!
Lovoo presents two main methods of connecting with beautiful women. There’s “Match” where you can swipe through women one-by-one, swiping right for yes and left for no. If the women you like swipe right on you too, you can chat and (hopefully) arrange to go on a date.
There’s also the “Near You” option, where you can browse the women in your area and hand-pick which ones to speak to. However, to start a conversation with a woman who hasn’t swiped right on you, you’ll need to use an “icebreaker” and these are in limited supply.
There’s also the option to stream live video in the “Live” tab.
In the free edition of the app:
- You can use the “Match” option, although you’ll have to spend “credits” for every right swipe you make.
- You can use the “Near You” option, but you’ll have to spend “icebreakers” to start a conversation.
- You can use the “Live” option as much as you want, either by going live yourself or by watching other people’s streams.
You’re given enough credits for logging in each day to make it possible for you to land some matches and hopefully land a date. There are other ways to earn free credits too, such as by verifying your profile, confirming your email address or unlocking the “Surprise Of The Day”.
If you upgrade to the Premium edition of the app
- You can use the “Match” option endlessly without having to spend credits. Premium members are also supposedly placed higher in the “Match” feature, plus they’re granted a boost that supposedly gives them 10 times more views.
- You’ll be able to see who has already swiped right on you and instantly start conversations with them.
- You’ll get access to 3 free icebreakers every day. Free members have to buy them. There are also added search filters to help you quickly find your ideal woman.
- Premium members can stream live too, and have the option to notify their followers when they do.
With a good profile, you should be able to attract matches without spending any money, although the premium membership would appear to do a great job of helping you land even more.
There weren’t so many great women to choose from on Lovoo
Whenever possible, we test our dating apps in a medium-sized city in the United States. This provides the best reflection of how effective the dating app might be to our core audience. Admittedly, Lovoo is most popular in Europe.
Still, the quantity and the quality of women available on the “Near Me” feature wasn’t great. After sending a dozen or so messages, I was already forced to look outside the city for suitable matches.
The number of women using a specific dating app will always be one of the most important factors when it comes to your success.
And Lovoo was lacking here.
The women on Lovoo were reasonably responsive though
During my tests of Lovoo, I only sent “icebreakers” to women and messaged those who had already swiped right. Throughout these tests, 20% of women responded to my opening messages. One was willing to give me her Snapchat details, but it was on her profile anyway.
While that’s far from the best response rate we’ve seen, it’s enough for us to confidently say that guys will probably land a date or two if they have a decent profile.
Why AFF is still a better option than
While Lovoo isn’t an awful dating app, we wouldn’t recommend it above AFF if you’re looking for a casual hookup or short-term fling. AFF ranks as the best hook-up website we’ve ever tested, mostly because we are overwhelmed with beautiful women looking to meet us whenever we use it.
It’s not the place to find serious relationships, only quick and casual relationships. That’s made obvious on the home page.
The great thing about that is women who sign up for AFF wholeheartedly accept that premise. Instead of wanting to send messages back and forth for weeks, they are ready to meet and hook up quickly.
It also has a bigger user base than Lovoo as well, having launched in 2000 and remained popular for the best part of two decades.
AFF is currently running a free trial, meaning there has been no better time to create an account!
Positives and Negatives of Lovoo
Here’s a summary of what I liked and didn’t like about Lovoo:
- There’s a fair number of beautiful women on Lovoo with verified photos
- You should be able to land some matches with a free account
- You can hand-pick your favorite women to talk to with a Premium account or by buying “icebreakers”
- There’s a live-streaming video service too
- There are plenty more popular and active apps to choose from (in the United States at least)
- You’ll only receive three free ice-breakers per day on the premium version of the app. There are more generous premium versions out there.
Members, pictures and profiles
The Lovoo profiles are somewhat basic and not at all unique. You’re given space to write a bio and fill out a few demographical details only. You can add multiple pictures to your profile. There’s a wide range of women using this app looking for different things, whether that’s a serious relationship, a casual hookup or a friendly chat.
It also helps that some profiles have a little blue badge that indicates that they’ve verified their photos. I had to do this when I set up my profile, so it’s a good way to know if you’re talking to someone who went through that extra step.
Design
It’s easy to navigate Lovoo. Jumping between the main features – Match, Near Me, Live and your messages – is a breeze. Anyone could understand how to use Lovoo within minutes.
Messaging and chatting
If you’ve matched with someone, you can send unlimited messages to them, back and forth. If you want to message them before matching, you’ll have to earn and spend an ‘icebreaker’. Also, you can’t send pictures, only text.
This is severely limiting, so most users seem to prefer to exchange social media info. On the one hand, that’s good news since you can contact each other outside of Lovoow. But on the other hand, not a lot of women are willing to give out their social media info before getting to know someone better.
Advertisements
You’ll see adverts pop up if you have a free account. It’s possible to earn extra credits by watching video ads too.

There is only one premium account tier with Lovoo. To access this, you’ll need to pay a monthly subscription. You’re given the choice to sign up for one, three, six or 12 months. The longer subscriptions are more expensive, but they’ll cost you less overall per month.
